These adorable snowmen are also a great Christmas craft, they will be great decorations for Christmas gifts made by yourself or your kids for family members and friends.

They are also a great winter craft and can be done at home or in the classroom – the younger the children, the larger the craft sticks you should use.

How to make a snowman with handmade sticks

What you need:

  • giant craft stick
  • white paint
  • paint for hat
  • paint brush
  • orange construction paper
  • drag
  • glue or best glue dots
  • buttons (you can also use the small circles left over from punching paper)
  • black marker
  • white pom pom
  • ribbon

Step by step instructions

Start by painting the craft stick white. Depending on the type of paint, you may need to apply more than one coat.

Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.

Once the white paint is dry, paint the hat. Paint one end of the craft stick the color of your choice.

Cut out a carrot shape from orange cardstock (or paint it on a craft stick) and glue it onto the craft stick – underneath the painted end.

Draw two eyes and a mouth with a black marker.

Glue a few buttons under the head (leaving some room for the scarf too). We find that glue dots work best for sticking buttons to anything (and kids love using them).

Glue a small white pom pom to the end of the craft stick (again, glue will work better).

Finally, make a scarf. Tie a piece of ribbon (or yarn for younger children, which is easier to tie) around the craft stick (between the snowman’s face and the button).

Trim the ribbon to make it look nicer.

And that’s it, your handmade Snowman is done.

You can even add some string to hang it and turn it into a decoration.

Or use as a bookmark.
