We’re sure you already have a list of easy Christmas crafts to do with your kids (if not, just add this 3D paper card or these DIY paintbrush Santas). But like any crafting session, there will be those quirky bits and pieces of paper that just need another craft project.

This scrap paper Christmas tree craft is perfect for that purpose – use scrap paper or even other materials – like ribbon and make a beautiful little decoration.

Beautiful right?

How to make Christmas tree crafts from scrap paper

What you need

  • giant craft stick
  • leftover green paper
  • gold foil or excess gold
  • glue
  • clear tape or duct tape

Step by step instructions

We like the natural color of the craft stick for this project, however you could also paint it brown. Create a loop with a piece of wire

Use tape to secure it to the back of a craft stick – if you are making an ornament to hang.

The craft stick is ready to hang – now let’s turn it into a beautiful decoration.

Cut thin strips from some green (or other colored) scrap paper.

Cut them into different sizes.

Apply glue to the craft stick.

Start gluing the paper strips – the longest strip at the bottom.

Work your way up, adding more glue if needed.

Cut a star shape out of yellow paper and glue it onto the scrap paper Christmas tree craft.

Done! This is ready to hang.

Alternatively, you can do without the string – it would also look great on your homemade Christmas cards.

Happy crafting!
