If your child loves all things fairy tales then this is the story just for them. You can also pair it with our other fairy tale characters: be sure to check out our mermaid turkey, unicorn turkey and princess turkey.

Our favorite aspect of the printable is that it includes two turkeys, one decorated with a knight’s regalia and another without. This allows the turkey to easily put on and take off his knight costume, providing an engaging experience for your child.

How to make a turkey in knight’s clothing

What you need:

  • our printable template (you can get the knight costume printable for free at the end of the guide or get the whole set with over 25 costumes).
  • coloring materials (markers or crayons are best)
  • drag
  • glue

Step-by-step instructions

Start by having your child color the background paper (the one with the words or the one with the small rectangle above the turkey).

You want this one to look like a regular turkey, so brown, yellow and orange colors are a great choice.

Next, get the printable with just the turkey. This is where we go for disguises, so let the kids think about how they will color their costumes.

We colored the body gray to look like armor and the tail green to look like a bush in the background. It can also be colored to resemble a knight’s robe.

Fill in the paper with camouflage parts.

Have the kids cut out all the parts of the costume as well as the gray turkey.

Apply glue to the knight parts and stick them on the turkey.

Don’t forget the shield and sword, they make the disguise super convincing.

Take the paper with the picture of a normal-looking turkey. On that piece of paper there is a dotted line. Have the child fold the paper along that line.

Apply glue to the folded part, in the middle.

Paste the image of the turkey disguised as a knight, aligning it with the bottom part of the regular-looking turkey.

All done! Now this turkey can change his knight costume at will.

Add writing paper and encourage your child to write about the disguise and why they think it would work.
