You can make them have a color (redness any yellow if you are targeting more traditional colors to honor the new year of China) or the color you want.

How to make diy paper lanterns

What you need:

  • Printed sample (optional)
  • drag
  • glue
  • Cardstock Red
  • Colored paper (red, yellow, light and darker pink, lightweight and darker, blue, orange, light and darker)
  • Circle Puncher (Optional)
  • Pencil and ruler (optional)

Step by step

Use our sample, a circular punch, compass or a round object to track and cut paper circles of the same size.

There are children cutting out a rectangle from the red cardstock and applying glue.

Take the first paper circle and fold it in half.

Paste it in a rectangle as shown in the picture.

Continue with the next.

And that’s all with it.

Continue to add paper circles one by one.

More glue if needed.

Rinse and repeat.

Then add red.

You do not need to go all the way to the end of the rectangle, a part of it must be free circle.

There are children cutting a yellow rectangle with a red length like red and starting to perform cuts into it to make the edge. Do not cut through paper.

There are children who make cuts in the entire length.

Turn over the red paper with half a circle and apply glue along one side.

There are glue on the yellow cut.

It is time for paper lantern rolls. Apply some glue and red paper rolls to one tube.

Glue lanterns together so that it is rolled.

The lantern needs one handle, so there are children cutting out a thin red strip, applying glue to its head and putting it in the top lantern.

All have been completed!

We love the final result! It is very exciting!

Children can do as much as they like!
