DIY Teacup Bird Feeder

I’ve been admiring teacup bird feeders for a while now, so it’s time to show you how to make your own teacup bird feeder.

Any mug will do, but a vintage looking mug or a really vintage looking mug will ensure the wow factor.

Don’t let the little birds go hungry! Yes, even if they aren’t really hungry this time of year, they are still a joy to watch.

Homemade Teacup Bird Feeder

What you need:

  • Teacups and saucers (souvenir shops, dollar stores…)
  • E6000 glue
  • String or rope for hanging
  • Bird seeds
  • 1 Knife

Wash and dry your teacups and saucers thoroughly. As you can see, mine are different, so this is the perfect time to use up those extras! Especially if you like your teacups but your saucers are broken or vice versa. Washing will remove any oils from your hands.

Place your teacup on the saucer and use your dinner knife to hold it in place. Sometimes you need to put the knife against the side of the teacup, sometimes just the back. Experiment until you get the angle you want. Leave the knife in place and carefully remove the cup. Spread a thick layer of glue over the teacup and place it on the saucer. Adjust the knife if necessary.

Let it sit and dry according to the glue instructions. I left mine on the table for two days. Check to make sure it doesn’t slide left or right. If it does, straighten it out and put a knife on the side where it falls. You want the handle to be facing up to hang.

Once completely dry and secure, add a piece of string or rope to the handle, fill it with bird seed and hang it up!

Note: When looking for the perfect saucer and teacup, position them the way you would like to make a teacup bird feeder. You may find that some teacup shapes work better than others.
