There are about a thousand ways you can make a dollar store wooden tray look amazing and this “sea horse in the ocean” is just the perfect idea for kids and adults!
What you will need:
- wooden trays (you can almost always buy them at the dollar store – if they don’t have them then the craft store is your next choice)
- watercolor and brush (watercolor pens also work great)
- stencil and tape
Cut out the stencil -I also cut out the inside of the stencil as this makes it easier to secure it with tape. The next, most logical step is to use some tape to secure the stencil.
All that’s left to do is color the wooden tray around the stencil.
Now, if you take a more detailed stencil, you won’t be able to apply the tape perfectly in all the places, so as you stencil around those areas, press the stencil with your fingers. paint down to make sure the watercolor doesn’t stick to the stencil (since they quickly blend into the wood fairy, you won’t have much trouble doing that).
This style of wooden tray decoration will make an inexpensive tray really stand out and you can even experiment with textures – like adding a little salt while painting, rubbing alcohol, etc.
