When it comes to craft ideas for this Valentine’s Day, there’s no limit to the colors your kids will choose. It’s a great project where kids can make it personal by choosing all their favorite colors.
If you want to keep it true to the Valentine’s Day theme, you can limit the colors to red, purple, etc., but we highly recommend letting the kids be comfortable with their color choices.
How to make easy heart symmetry art
What you need:
- drag
- glue
- cardboard or construction paper (red and white)
- Washable paint (color of your choice)
- paint brush
- black marker
Step-by-step instructions
We’ll need a heart shape! You can use our printable heart borders or you or your child can draw your own.
If making your own, fold a sheet of paper in half.
Draw half a heart shape on the folded side of the cardboard.
Cut out shapes.
Then, open the paper cover to reveal the completed heart shape.
It’s painting time!
Let the kids add blobs of paint to one half of the heart.
Have them add a series of blobs in a variety of colors (we chose pink paint over red paint for interesting color variations).
Let them add as much as they want, but don’t spend too much time on this step to avoid the paint drying out.
Once the kids are happy with their color choices, it’s time to create symmetrical works of art!
Ask the child to carefully fold the heart.
Press the folded heart down to transfer the paint to the opposite side of the heart.
It’s time to unleash the unique heart shape!
Ta-da!
The colors look amazing and unique when they go together!
Let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step. This helps prevent smudging when handling the artwork.
Ask your child to place the painted heart on a piece of red cardboard, draw a larger heart shape around it, and cut it out.
The final step is to apply glue to the back of the painted heart and carefully place it in the center of the red heart, creating an outline around it.
This adorable heart-shaped symmetrical craft is perfect as a gift on occasions like Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.
Pretty sweet, right?
