We love making all kinds of origami corner bookmarks, it’s amazing what a little creativity can do.

These bookmarks are one of the best origami for beginners, they are simple enough that even preschoolers (with some help) can handle them and because bookmarks are functional so children will love them even more. I mean who doesn’t love a nice bookmark in their favorite book?

How to make an elephant corner bookmark

What you need:

  • blue or gray origami paper
  • blue or gray paper
  • black marker
  • drag
  • glue
  • Wiggle eye stickers or googly eyes (optional)

Step-by-step instructions

Prepare a sheet of origami paper. We’re using blue, but gray, purple (or any other color) would be great too.

Fold the paper in half, with the white side on the inside, diagonally to get a triangle shape.

Fold one of the paper layers (taking the top part of the triangle) towards the bottom.

A white square inside a triangle will appear.

Now bring the right corner of the triangle to the bottom middle. Make the fold sharp and open.

Do the same with the other side.

Now take the same right corner but this time bring it to the top.

Repeat with the remaining corner (will form a diamond shape).

Stuff the tops into the “pocket”. Corner marking is complete. Now let’s turn it into an elephant bookmark.

Cut two large ears out of the remaining paper.

You can make the ears symmetrical by folding the paper in half and cutting both ears at the same time.

Also cut the stem (and if you want the tusks).

Glue the stem to the corner bookmark.

Do the same with the ears.

Now add details using a black marker.

You can draw eyes with a marker or use wiggly eye stickers or googly eyes.
