How to use our elephant puppet print template

What you need:

  • our printable template (get it at the end of this guide)
  • paper – thicker printing paper is recommended
  • coloring materials
  • glue
  • drag

Follow the step-by-step instructions

Start by printing out the printable elephant puppet template. We recommend printing on thicker printer paper, but regular printer paper will work just as well.

Color the puppet. Only color the middle third of the paper, as the other two-thirds will not be visible when the puppet is folded (there is nothing wrong with coloring the whole thing).

Also, color in the “accessories” on the second page. There are many different colors you can choose from, we think gray or blue work best with elephant skin but you don’t have to limit yourself to “realistic” colors.

Cut off ears, body and tusks. Set aside.

Take the first sheet of paper and fold along all the dotted lines.

We usually use a craft stick to run over all the folds to make them really sharp. This makes the puppet much easier to fold.

Open all the folds. Place the design side facing the table. Fold one flap to the left or right towards the center and glue the third fold.

Fold the remaining “third” section over the section you just glued. Press down to let the glue set.

Fold along the dotted lines into an M shape.

The M shape would look like this, with the inside of the mouth resembling valley folds.

Glue all the “accessories” onto your elephant puppet.

Now push your fingers into the two slots and let your elephant puppet come to life!
