Love space and butterflies? Make this galaxy butterfly craft!
These are super cute, sparkly, and can be used as a craft session or as a simple art project for kids to do. And it comes with a butterfly pattern!

This project is perfect for teaching kids about symmetry – it’s a great spring art lesson for preschoolers (skip the pattern if possible and if time allows).
While we’re going crazy over these galaxy prints, your child can use a variety of colors and go beyond the galaxy palette.
What you need:
Start by printing out a template or drawing your own butterfly (we have a tutorial on how to draw a butterfly that may be useful for younger children, although the design is simpler than the template we provide). Print out the template or draw your butterfly onto cardstock.
Cut out your pattern or drawing – fold it in half and unfold it.
Add paint to a surface – add drops, blocks and lines, colors can overlap.
Close up of butterfly – push gently to spread the paint.
Open the butterfly again. Looks nice, right? Now for the boring part. Wait for the paint to dry.
Use a toothbrush or paintbrush to apply white paint to the butterfly. This will give your painting a more galactic look.
Add a few drops or strips of glue and sprinkle gold glitter on the glue.
Grab your pom poms. If you have different sizes, glue a large one on top of the butterfly (to make the head). Glue smaller ones to the body (if you have mini pom poms, use them at the bottom of the body).
Cut toothpicks and bend the ends. Glue them to the back of a large pom pom.
All that remains is to add a pair of bulging eyes.
Done!
