We’re so glad you enjoyed our drawing tutorials for kids! With the temperatures feeling like summer here, we decided to do a series of ocean animal drawing tutorials (have you seen our step by step guide to drawing fish – it’s the easiest tutorial ever).
Next up is the dolphin, the goofy marine mammal. And a very intelligent one too. You might think this animal is hard to draw, but you’ll soon find it’s really easy.
Once your child or you master this “standard pose” (at least judging by all the dolphin pendants I see around), you’ll be able to draw this animal in all sorts of different poses, too. Or add waves and sun in the background to make your drawing even cooler.
Ready to give it a try? I know you’ll paint a beautiful picture!

The first step is actually the hardest, it gets easier as we move forward. We’ll start by drawing a platform. Starting at the top, make a “down” U shape and extend the line a little further at the bottom end.
Now create a curve for your back. Start on the right side and end on the left side.
Draw pectoral fins.
Draw the belly.
Now draw all the other fins, another pectoral fin and then a dorsal fin. Draw the tail too.
Last but not least draw a mouth (we drew a cute smile for our little dolphin) and an eye.
You just learned how to draw a dolphin! See, it wasn’t that hard. Now you can add some waves in the background to make the dolphin look like it’s jumping out of the water (some water droplets and splashes would be nice too). You can also add a sun in the background.
