We are really excited to add another tutorial to our growing collection of how to draw sea animals.
We had fun learning how to draw a dolphin a few days ago, so now we’re moving on to another marine mammal, this time the largest one.
Since this tutorial is for kids and beginners I thought a cartoon whale would be the best fit and I think this is one of the easiest ways to draw a whale.
Your child may think this is a difficult drawing but once they follow the steps, they will be able to draw a whale on their own in no time. And once they have mastered this pose, they can move on to drawing different poses, different scenarios and continue to develop their drawing style.

Learn how to draw a whale with instructions and printables
This is one of the easiest whale drawing tutorials ever, perfect for use in kindergarten and preschool. Print out our printable drawing templates with drawing instructions and help kids build their drawing confidence.
What you need:
- our printable template (you can get it at the end of this drawing tutorial)
- paper
- printer
- black marker (or pencil, crayon,…)
Optional: coloring material to color your finished piece.

Print out our guided drawing template (which you can find at the end of this guide) for kids to use.
Start by drawing a “hill”. Start on the left and end on the right.
Now we will draw the whale’s mouth. Place the pencil on the left end of the “hill” and draw a smile.
Draw a whale fin. Can you see part of the whale’s formation?
Now draw the belly. Start on the right side and draw a line to the fin. Continue on the other side of the fin.
Also, draw a straight line for the tail.
Draw an eye.
More detail! Draw a tail. And a fin. Also draw a blowhole.
And another line in the belly.
Now for the finishing touch. Draw the lines on the belly.
And some water comes out of the spout.
