What you need:

  • printable template (optional)
  • pencil
  • drag
  • glue
  • colored paper (blue, red, pink, two yellow and two purple)
  • white marker

Step-by-step instructions

Prepare a sheet of blue paper.

If you want your child to make a card, have them place the piece horizontally and fold it in half vertically.

Step 1

Cake

Have them cut out a red rectangle and fold its ends over.

Step 2

The children must bend the rectangle and glue it to the blue paper.

We wanted a 3D look.

Step 3

Top layer

Ask the children to draw some wavy lines on pink paper.

Step 4

Now you can cut it out and glue it onto the curved part of the cake.

Step 5

They can cut some circles from the colored paper to use as the top and glue them to the red part of the cake.

Step 6

To create the remaining two cake layers, repeat the steps with yellow and purple paper.

The yellow rectangle must be narrower than the red rectangle, and the purple rectangle must be narrower than the yellow rectangle.

Optional: You can cut all the cake sections (rectangles) to the same size, then adjust the fold when gluing to make it look smaller than the bottom cake section.

Step 7

Candle

Have them cut out a smaller pink rectangle.

Step 9

Fire

Ask your child to cut out two teardrop shapes – a larger red shape and a smaller yellow shape.

Then, glue the pieces together and attach that part to the candle.

Step 10

They can stick the candle inside the purple cake and then use a white pen to draw some dots.

Step 11

The cake card will look better with some colorful dots. They can use red, yellow and purple and stick them around the cake on a blue background.

Step 12

Your child has successfully learned how to make a 3D birthday cake card.
