How to Make a Birthday Shaker Card – Homemade Birthday Card

We will show you How to Make a Shaker Birthday Card, a card that will bring a smile to the face of the person being wished a happy birthday.

This is a really great and easy DIY birthday card idea, even better when it comes with a bear pattern.

Today we’re excited to show you how to make this card.

How to make simple shaking card

It’s one of our favorite things to make and it’s super sparkly and so easy to rock.

How to make a birthday shake card

What you need:

  • cardboard 11 cm x 15 cm
  • Cardboard 10cm x 14cm
  • Acetate sheet 9cm x 13cm
  • double sided foam tape (we used 18mm)
  • double-sided tape (we used 18 mm tape, cut in half, each piece 9 mm)
  • square foam
  • Arnica
  • a pencil and a ruler
  • scissors/craft knife
  • watercolor + brush
  • Crayons
  • baby powder
  • bear and balloon pattern


Step by step guide

Place a little baby powder on both sides of the double-sided foam tape and rub it in with your fingers.

This will prevent dust from getting in.

Step 1

Measure a strip 14 cm long and fold it in half. Measure a strip 8.5 cm long and fold it in half.

Then cut each one in half lengthwise.

Measure 1 cm horizontally and vertically from each corner on a 10 cm x 14 cm cardstock. Then draw the lines with a pencil.

Use scissors (children)/paper cutter (adults) with the help of an adult to cut those lines.

Step 2-3

Scissors are a safer choice for young children.

That’s it, the window frame is done.

Apply double-sided tape to each window line and remove the backing paper.

Step 3

Take the acetate sheet and carefully place it on the window leaving equal space on all sides.

Press the acetate sheet with a ruler so that it sticks to the tape.

Place 14mm stripes lengthwise on the acetate sheet, then place 8.5cm stripes horizontally (shorten them if necessary).

Mark 1cm from each corner on the 11cm x 15cm cardboard.

Draw watercolor stripes inside that area.

Set sequins!

Step 6

Remove the paper lining behind the window and place the window on a 11cm x 15cm cardboard sheet…

…while leaving equal space on all sides.

Print and cut out the bear and balloon (using cardboard), then color them in with colored pencils.

Place foam squares on their backs.

Place the bear and balloon on the acetate sheet.

Wow! What a cool shaker card you have there!

Now shake the card and watch the sequins sprinkle behind the bear!
