This is one of our favorite crafts, it’s super sparkly and very sparkly.

How to make Shaker birthday cards

What you need:

  • Cardboard 11cm x 15cm
  • Cardboard 10cm x 14cm
  • Acetate sheet 9cm x 13cm
  • double sided foam tape (we used 18mm)
  • double sided tape (we used 18mm tape cut in half, each tape is 9mm thick)
  • square foam
  • sequin
  • a pencil and a ruler
  • scissors/craft knife
  • watercolor + brush
  • colored pencils
  • baby powder
  • bear and balloon pattern

Step by step instructions

Sprinkle a little baby powder on both sides of the double-sided foam tape and rub it in with your fingers.

This will prevent dust from getting in.

Measure a strip 14cm long and fold it in half. Measure a strip 8.5cm long and fold it in half.

Then cut each one in half lengthwise.

Measure 1cm horizontally and vertically from each corner on the 10cm x 14cm cardboard. Then draw the lines with a pencil.

Use scissors (children)/paper cutter (adults) with adult assistance to cut those lines.

Scissors are a safer option for young children.

So that’s the window frame done.

Apply double-sided tape to each window frame and remove the backing paper.

Take the acetate sheet and carefully place it on the window leaving equal space on all sides.

Use a ruler to press the acetate paper firmly onto the tape.

Place 14mm stripes lengthwise on the acetate sheet, then place 8.5cm stripes horizontally (can be shortened if necessary).

Mark 1 cm from each corner on 11 cm x 15 cm cardboard.

Paint watercolor stripes inside that area.

Put the sequins on!

Peel the backing paper off the window and place the window on a piece of cardboard measuring 11cm x 15cm …

…while keeping equal distance on all sides.

Print and cut out the bear and balloon (using cardboard), then color them in with colored pencils.

Place the foam square on their backs.

Place the bear and balloon on the acetate sheet.

Finished!
