We love making simple origami and this time we’ll learn how to make a paper boat – a summer favorite!
We’ve made quite a few great origami tutorials for kids and each of them is a must-do!
I loved making these as a child (the exact same ones) and I loved playing with them even more – we would paddle them in bathtubs, puddles and lakes and when possible, even organized Boat races with other neighborhood kids.
However, this time we went a step further to see who could make the smallest origami boat – working with a smaller piece of paper each time (cutting the size of the paper in half each time) and I was really surprised at the size of the paper we decided on – and to be honest, we could have made one even smaller if I had had tweezers on hand.
How to make a paper boat
All you need is a letter-sized or A4 sheet of paper. Regular printer paper is perfect for this project. Use as many colors as possible.
Start with a sheet of paper and fold it in half downwards.
Fold it in half as shown in the second picture (you don’t need to fold from top to bottom – you just need to mark the middle).
Bring the corners to the middle so you get a triangle with a rectangle underneath.
Fold the rectangle underneath the triangle up (as shown with the purple blobs) – flip your origami paper and do the same on the other side.
Take the red point in the middle of the triangle as indicated in the first image above and pull both sides (keeping the red point) outward. Flatten.
You should get the shape shown in the second image above (ignore the red spot in the bottom left corner – I don’t know how that got there haha).
Fold the front layer up (as shown with the green point), turn the origami boat over and do the same with the back layer. You will get a triangle.
Pull the edges outward and you will again get the square shape as shown in the first image below.
Slowly pull the top out and you have your paper boat!
