We’re always on the lookout for easy crafts for kids, and these agamographs are just that, a super easy craft for kids! While you can certainly let your kids draw their own, using and coloring a template can be just as fun (and a perfect classroom project if you’re short on time).

These Mother’s Day Agamographs are the perfect gift for any mother. They can easily replace traditional Mother’s Day cards and are much more fun.

The finished agamograph can fit on almost any shelf or can be displayed wherever you see fit.

For those who are new to agamographs, we can only say that – making them is really fun!

The magic of the agamograph is that when you look at it from one angle, you see one image (the caption “MOM” surrounded by hearts), but when you look at it from another angle, you see a completely different image (two hands holding a heart).

Beginners can print out version two, color the entire image first, cut out the agamograph pieces, and glue them together alternately to create the craft. You can also use “version 2” as a reference while you color “version 1.”

How to Make an Agamograph for Mother’s Day

What you need:

  • our printable template (you’ll find it at the end of this guide)
  • heavier printing paper (regular paper will be fine, but heavier paper is a better choice)
  • coloring materials
  • drag
  • scoring tool – optional but very useful (skewers work great)
  • glue

Follow the step-by-step instructions below

Print out the template – you’ll find it at the end of this guide.Svg%3E

Fill the template with vibrant colors to make the »MOM« caption and heart really stand out.

When coloring, you can use the “version 2” template as a reference because it shows both images as a whole.Svg%3E

Use scissors to cut out the agamograph.Svg%3E

To score along alternating images, use the scoring tool (score along the lines separating the images).

We used a wooden skewer because it was really handy but there are lots of other things you can use (including a craft paper marker). Svg%3E

Fold along all lines.

Fold the first alternating image using the accordion fold technique. Turn the entire page face down and begin folding.Svg%3E

Press firmly after each fold (you can even run a craft stick over the fold to crisp things up).Svg%3E

Continue folding until the last fold and slowly unfold the agamograph.Svg%3E
