As kids put their newspaper tree together, they’ll enjoy the paper’s satisfying texture and the fun of tearing it into perfect shapes. Each strip they add not only builds the tree, but also builds their excitement and sense of accomplishment. The combination of recycled materials and colorful accents like a shining star on top make this craft both environmentally friendly and visually appealing. It’s a simple yet meaningful way to celebrate the season while encouraging creativity and sustainability.

How to make Christmas tree crafts using newspapers

What you need:

  • old newspaper
  • drag
  • glue
  • construction paper (green and yellow)

Step-by-step instructions

You can use any color for the background, we think green will work very well.

Cut a smaller rectangle to fit the green shape.

This way, it will be easier for you not to make other parts of the craft too large.

Have your child tear the newspaper into strips.

Tear, tear, cheers!

They can be of roughly the same width or of different types.

Children can start creating the Christmas tree!

Tear a piece of newspaper into smaller pieces to make the tree top.

And stick it on top of the green cardstock.

Tear off a longer piece of newspaper and tape it underneath the top, slowly forming the shape of the tree.

Continue tearing and gluing strips of newspaper to create a festive Christmas tree shape.

Watch your tree come to life!

Tear off another small piece for the trunk and stick it below the branch.

Your tree now has a beautiful base!

Cut out a bright yellow star and glue it to the top of your tree.

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas!

You’re done!

Your newspaper or handmade Christmas card is complete and ready to spread holiday cheer to friends and family.

Wishing you successful manufacturing!
