Another great recycled craft idea: Flowers from egg cartons

We really love recycled crafts. I am a huge hoarder of scrap materials that we use in our crafting sessions because I know there is always a great use for them.
I’m so excited to share these recycled newspaper flowers (made by Jacquelyn) because they use two amazing materials that open up a world of possibilities for crafting: newspaper and bubble wrap. If you can resist the temptation to break up the bubble wrap, you can use it as an art supply – a wonderfully textured brush that will delight kids and adults alike. If you haven’t tried bubble wrap painting, I highly recommend it.
How to Make Flowers from Recycled Newspaper
What you need:
- newspaper
- bubble wrap
- paint
- brush
- drag
- glue
- cardboard or canvas
- optional: cupcake liners, pom poms
Step by step instructions
Get your newspaper and bubble wrap ready. Paint the bubble wrap a bright floral color and press (stamp) it onto the newspaper. Isn’t this the most amazing texture?
Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.
Cut out a circle. You can use many shapes available in the house – cups, tape…
Like the first step, you also paint the bubble wrap green and stamp it onto the newspaper.
Cut out leaf shapes and a few stems.
Fold the bubble wrap circles in half and then in half again. These little triangles will give your leopard print a little extra volume.
Time to make the flower base. Glue the 4 folded circles to the circular base or glue the corners of each folded circle together to form a circle (one on top of another or one inside another).
If you decide to add cupcake liners (they make a nice addition to the flowers). Flatten them, fold them in half, then fold them in half again. Cut the wide ends with scissors.
Unfold the cupcake liners and you will see a beautiful flower shape. Glue it to the bottom or top of the newspaper flower.
Glue flowers, leaves and stems onto fabric.
You can decorate them even more, with a smaller cupcake liner in the middle. Let your imagination lead the way.
Want to add more decoration? Why not use pom poms and glue them in the middle of the flower?
