If you don’t have black and white newspaper, have your child paint it white. It will still retain the charm of that newspaper.
How to make newspaper snowman art
What you need:
- drag
- glue
- watercolor or craft paint
- paintbrush
- old newspapers or magazines
- white cardboard
- colored paper (brown, orange and red)
- black paper
- button or shuttlecock
- black marker
Step-by-step instructions
We will work on white paper – use card stock or school art paper. You can secure the paper to the table with tape.
Paint over the entire sheet of paper. Have children use different shades of blue. Purple is another great color choice for winter magic.
Tip: You can also ask them to make white snowflakes with their fingers like we did in this penguin craft tutorial.
Cut the snowman’s body out of newspaper or magazine (the simplest way is to just cut out two circles, one slightly larger than the other).
Apply glue to the painted paper or to one of the circles and stick it on the painted paper.
Build the body of the snowman.
Cut a hat shape from black paper and glue it onto the snowman’s head.
Cut a small rectangle from construction paper (red or other), apply glue on it (or on the hat).
Stick it on the hat.
Make eyes. You can cut them out of black paper and stick them on your head, use markers and draw them, use buttons or use googly eye stickers.
Cut a triangle out of orange paper for the nose and glue it below the eyes.
Next, have children draw small dots for the snowman’s mouth.
Apply a small amount of glue to the back of the buttons and stick them on the snowman. You can also use pom poms or paper circles (hole punches make great little circles).
Cut the snowman’s arms from brown paper and glue them to the body. You can also use small twigs.
All done!
