Paper and craft paper are still some of our favorite crafting materials (so many possibilities and pretty frugal too!), and we love making all sorts of “paper ball creatures” – just check out our paper balls or the many others we’ve made!

As the holiday season approaches, it’s time to get into holiday characters, and turning Rudolph the reindeer into a character is definitely a must.

Paper Reindeer Christmas Crafts for KidsHow to make a reindeer paper ball craft

What you need:

  • light brown construction paper
  • dark brown construction paper
  • drag
  • optional paper cutter
  • glue
  • Wiggle eye patches or googly eyes. You can also draw your own.
  • red pom poms or red construction paper

Glitter glue to create magic is always welcome.

Cut 4 strips of paper. We cut them the width of an A4/letter sized sheet of paper. Ours was about a “finger” wide.

There are no set rules for how long or wide your strips should be – if your strips are longer, you may need to use more than 4 strips to form a nice, full ball shape, so adjust your project as you go.

Younger children can cut wider strips of paper, while older children can cut thinner strips and use more.

Gently bend them in half, the crease marking the middle of the paper strips.

Apply a small amount of glue to the center of the paper strip.

Place another strip of paper on top of the first strip, centered and forming a 90 degree angle.

Glue the remaining two pieces evenly apart.

If you have more strips, add more, trying to arrange them as evenly as possible.

Next, take one end of the paper strip and apply glue to it.

Take the other end of that strip of paper and glue it back to the first end, forming a circle.

Continue with all the other strips of paper until you have a nice looking paper ball.

Cut gauze out of dark cardstock.

Fold them at the end (L shape) and apply glue.

Stick them on top of the paper ball.

Take a pom pom, put glue in it and press it into the paper ball.

Add two vibrating eye patches or bulging eyes.

Done! Your paper reindeer creation is finished!
