Paper Christmas Tree Craft

If your kids love simple paper crafts then they will love this easy Christmas paper craft. What we love most about this craft is how easy it is to make and how amazing the results are.

If you’re planning on making a Christmas-themed bulletin board for your classroom, this is the project to do – although all the trees will be the same size, each tree will have its own unique character. when your kids decorate them in their own way.

We used pom poms to decorate but your child can also use a variety of other materials; from using paint to make jewelry to stickers to decorate a handmade Christmas tree.

These also look great on Christmas cards – just get your kids to make one and stick it on a blank card to spread some Christmas cheer.

Since these are truly a no-prep project, they’re a great last-minute Christmas craft to make in the classroom (or at home).

How to make a Christmas tree with handmade paper

What you need:

  • printable template (optional)
  • pencil
  • drag
  • glue
  • colored paper (blue, brown, yellow)
  • pom-poms (different colors)

Step-by-step instructions

Start with a square sheet of green paper (or another color if your child wants their tree on a different sheet of paper).

Have the child fold it in half diagonally.

Make cuts starting from the edge toward the fold.

The cuts should not go all the way through – make sure there is still some space left.

Carefully unfold the paper.

Apply glue along the fold.

Now, have your child start folding and gluing the strips of paper in the middle. Add glue if necessary.

Each strip should be folded and glued in the middle.

Continue until all sections are folded and glued.

Cut a smaller rectangle from brown paper and glue it as the tree trunk.

Have your child draw a star on yellow paper and cut it out.

Then, glue the star to the top of the tree.

It’s time to decorate.

We used colorful pom poms to decorate our construction paper Christmas tree but a variety of other materials could be used.

Your child can use his fingers, dip them in paint and make fingerprint decorations. Or use festive stickers as little trinkets.

Make them as colorful as you want.

Paper Christmas tree making is complete!
