We LOVE spring. Our favorite season. Not too cold, not too warm – just perfect. And all the sunshine and flowers. Really, what’s not to love! We also think flowers are most beautiful when they’re in the wild, so today we’re going to show you how to make an adorable paper flower craft step by step.

This game is suitable for all ages, young children (preschoolers and kindergarteners) will practice their fine motor skills while older children will enjoy the game and have fun.

You can also adapt it to make it more of an “adult” craft – just use music paper or newspaper for a more rustic look. Ready? Let’s get started.

What you need

  • circle paper punch – we recommend the extra large size if this craft is being done by young children
  • yellow paper
  • Paper in various colors (we use regular printer paper)
  • paper cutter or scissors
  • glue
  • green paper straws
  • clear tape (or patterned for more fun)

Or follow the step-by-step instructions below

First, punch out a few circles from yellow paper. You will need one circle for 1 flower. We recommend using a larger punch if you are working with small children as it will be easier for them to handle.

Cut the paper strips. This next step will take some trial and error. Depending on the size of your circle, different lengths (and widths) of paper strips will work. We recommend first making a strip of paper and creating a loop (as seen in the next step) and seeing if it fits the size of your circle. Once you are happy with the size of the loop relative to your yellow circle, start cutting strips of paper that size.

We recommend cutting if you are working with younger children. If you are making this a classroom project and want your children to cut out their own, we recommend using the largest round punch, as this will cut the strips the width of a letter sized sheet of paper more efficiently.

Tape the ends of the paper strips together, forming a paper ring. You will need quite a few (the amount depends on the size of the flower you are making).

Glue the rings to one side of the paper circle. We started by gluing 4 rings at a 90° angle, then gluing 4 more rings in the middle, and 8 more rings in between those.

Once you are happy with the fullness of your paper flower, apply a little glue to a green paper straw and press it into the center of the flower.

Secure with clear tape.
