Flowers are a great theme for spring crafts because they add so much fun and freshness (check out this printable Frog Puppet or create a paper bee craft activity).

We love making flowers come alive – with eyes and mouths, then pretending they are alive and can talk.

How to make handmade paper flower pots

What you need:

  • green paper
  • drag
  • hot glue
  • glue
  • round hole punching machine
  • circular ruler
  • Self adhesive googly eyes
  • black pencil
  • 2 sheets of colored paper of your choice (we used red and yellow)
  • green plastic straws
  • dark orange cardboard (you can also use green and brown cardboard or any other color)
  • cupcake liners (optional – if you don’t want to make your own pot, just glue cupcake liners to a round piece of cardboard and you have a pot)

Let’s create!

Step by step instructions

Grass pot

Punch a circle out of dark orange cardboard.

Step 1

Use scissors to cut a 3cm wide green strip (A4 size – cut lengthwise).

Step 2

Apply a little hot glue to the corners of the orange cardboard and begin wrapping the green strip around.

Step 3

Wrap one full circle, then continue wrapping until there are no more strips left.

Step 4

Seal the two ends of the strip with hot glue.

Step 5

Take your scissors and start cutting strips of paper towards the dark orange cardboard.

Stop cutting about 1 cm from the circle so as not to damage the pot.

Step 6

Use your fingers to pull the paper strips apart.

Step 7

This is a side view of the grass pot.

Step 8

Trunk

Take a green plastic straw and cut off both ends. Make the straw 8cm or 9cm long.

Step 9

Apply a little hot glue to the inside of the pot (in the middle), then attach the straw.

Hold the straw straight and wait until the glue hardens.

Step 10

The leaves

Cut two green strips.

Step 11

Start rolling the paper strips.

Step 12

This is what the rolled pieces will look like. They will serve as leaves.

Step 13

Apply a little hot glue to both sides of the plastic straw and glue the leaves on.

We like to have one leaf taller than the other.

Step 14

Flower

Punch out two circles (using the colored paper you chose for this project).

Step 15

Take a circle, attach fake eyes and draw a circle with a mouth.

Step 16

Glue the remaining circle onto another sheet of colored paper.

Step 17

Start drawing circles around using a circular ruler and a black marker. The diameter of the circles is 2 cm.

Step 18

This is what the flower will look like after you complete the circle.

Step 19

Use scissors to cut out the flower shape.

Step 20

Glue the circle with eyes and mouth to the front of the flower.

Step 21

Apply a little hot glue to the straw (straw body) and attach the flower.

Step 22

Finished!
