Do you have spare paper plates? Make crafts with your kids using crab paper plates! This is a fun little summer project that celebrates ocean life.
This is a great craft to do after a barbecue since we’re sure to have a spare paper plate or two, or to do during summer camps with kids, since a pack of paper plates is a great supply. Inexpensive craft perfect for larger groups.

When planning summer crafts for kids, sea animals are one of the most obvious choices. Nothing says summer more than fish, whales, crabs, sharks and the like. Well, maybe ice cream.
How to make crab crafts using paper plates
What you need:
- pencil
- drag
- adhesive
- paper plate
- white paper
- black paper
- colored paper (red and pink)
- red paint (acrylic, watercolor or other)
- paintbrush
- black marker
Step-by-step instructions
A paper plate will make a crab craft.
Cut the top part along a curve to make the crab’s body.
Paint the plate red and wait for the paint to dry.
Draw a claw shape on red construction paper.
Crop the shape to get two folds.
Glue the claws to the top of the crab’s body, one on each side.
Cut the crab legs and glue them to the bottom of the paper plate.
Cut or punch two large paper circles and two smaller black circles. Glue the black circles onto the white circles to make the eyes. Glue your eyes to your body.
This step is optional but super cute, paint your cheeks pink or use pink paper to do it.
Use a black marker to draw a smile on their crab.
All done!
