Paper Roses Heart Craft for Kids – Valentines Day or Mothers Day

It’s all about hearts and roses with this paper rose heart craft. It’s not the easiest craft, it requires a bit of patience and good fine motor skills (so it’s for older kids and adults) but the end result is really, really cool.

This heart is a great craft for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day, sure to make someone’s day wonderful.

These little rolled paper roses are actually quite easy to make (although not suitable for young children, certainly not for them) – once you master the first one, you should have no problem making the rest. However, since it takes more than one person to complete this project, patience is key. You can also turn this into a group effort, having several members of your family or class work together to make a heart, which will make it much easier.

How to make heart shaped paper roses

What you need:

  • colored craft paper
  • template
  • pencil
  • drag
  • craft glue
  • craft foam board (thick)

Step by step instructions

Print out the template – you can also make this craft without the template.

There are 4 different flower sizes included in the template, which will give your floral heart a more natural look. Print out the template and cut it out. Trace the patterns onto colored construction paper – you can use any color scheme you like – red and pink are perfect for Valentine’s Day. Cut out the traced patterns.

Take one of the spirals and start rolling from the outer end.

Roll all the way to the middle.

When you get to the middle, “relax” a little to loosen the roll a little. Add a little glue to the “center” of the spiral and press it into the rolled section.

Hold still for a moment to let the glue set.

Make the rest of the rolled roses in the same way. Make as many as you can to fill the heart.

For the heart-shaped base, you can buy it at an arts and crafts store or make your own out of cardboard, foam, or other similar material.

If you make your own, draw a small heart and a larger heart around it and cut them out.

Start gluing the rose onto the heart shaped base.

You can start gluing them anywhere on the heart.

You can fill in the entire heart or just add some highlights.

Continue adding flowers until you are happy with the shape of your heart shaped paper rose.

Are you done?

Done! You can add string to hang it or leave it as is.
