How to make pumpkin art ideas using paper strips

What you need:

  • printable template (optional)
  • pencil
  • drag
  • glue
  • colorful construction paper or old newspapers and other recycled papers

Step-by-step instructions

Cut paper strips of different colors. If you’re preparing this for larger groups, using a paper cutter will save a lot of time.

Prepare a sheet of paper. The paper does not have to be white, it will be covered with strips of paper. However, we recommend using construction paper to make the craft a little sturdier (regular paper is fine, but construction paper is better).

Step 1

Apply glue to the paper, starting from one side. Glue the first strip onto the paper.

Step 2

Continue taping another strip of paper next to it (you’ll get best results if the paper is a different color).

Step 3

Keep adding more and applying more glue as you go.

Step 4

Continue adding strips of paper until the entire cardboard is covered.

Print out a sketch of the desired pumpkin (or draw your own), have the kids cut it out and trace the color gradients with a pencil.

Step 5

Cut out pumpkin shapes.

Step 6

Prepare a light blue rectangle for the stem.

Step 7

Glue a dark blue strip on one side.

Step 8

Repeat on the other side for the pumpkin stem.

Step 9

Round the corners of the stem.

Step 10

And glue it to the back of your pumpkin.

Step 11

Cut two black triangles for the eyes and glue the first shape on.

Spooky!

Step 12

Add another triangle for a complete Jack-o’-Lantern face.

Step 13

Cut a semicircle from black paper, then shape the pumpkin’s mouth into teeth.

Step 14

Almost done.

Step 15

Glue it on!

Step 16

All done!

Step 17

Your brilliant paper strip pumpkin craft is ready to show off.
