Pinecone Winter Owls Craft

I’ve been wanting to make these for a while and I’m so excited to see how this pinecone winter owl craft turned out! They’re so adorable!

We’ve made a few pine cone crafts, like these fun pine cone hedgehogs, so owls were a must!

These adorable creatures can also make fun decorations.

Winter Owl Crafts Made from Pine Cones for Kids (and Young Adults 😉)

Raw materials

  • pine cone
  • white and beige felt and a little orange felt too
  • cotton ball / cotton wool
  • Googly eyes
  • glue
  • drag

If you pick pinceones in the wild (I pick some and buy some from the store), let them dry or dry them in the oven.

Once the pine cones are ready, start tearing off cotton balls and stuffing them into the pine cones. You don’t need to use glue as the cotton balls will stay in place. Work around the pine cones – this will give them a “owl-like” texture.

To make the owl’s “accessories” out of felt, cut out a pair of wings from white felt (or whatever color you want really). Next, cut out a small oval for the head from beige felt, and cut out a slightly smaller oval from white felt. You can make one side of the white shape a little like a heart to give it more of a “face” look. Cut out a small orange beak.

I glued the beak onto the beige oval and then glued the smaller oval on top. Next the googly eyes were glued onto the felt.

We used white glue to attach the details on the wings and head and it turned out pretty well, although I think a glue gun would have done a better job.
