Pom Pom Snowman Ornament – Pom Pom Crafts

Have you ever made pom poms from books? It’s fun and here’s the method used to make this cute pom pom snowman ornament.

How to make a Pom Pom ball

Materials:

  • Hardcover book
  • Wool
  • Drag

Cut a longer piece of yarn, about 12 inches, and set it aside. This is your tail.

Take a hardcover book and wrap yarn around it. I usually start with about 100 loops, depending on how big I want my pom pom to be. Cut the yarn.

Thread the tail under the yarn wrapped around the book.

Remove the yarn from the book by sliding it out. The tail helps keep the halves separate.

Cut the loop. And remove the tail wire (but don’t throw it away, you’ll need it again)/

Cut the pile of yarn in half and place one half on top of the other.

Using your tail yarn, tie the yarn TIGHTLY in the middle. Use a friend to press down on the middle as you double knot. DO NOT CUT THE TAIL.

Grasp the tail, gather the pom pom in one hand and cup it as shown. Do not cut the tail. Wrap it around your palm and fingers if it starts to get tangled.

Use scissors to trim the pom pom as desired, aligning the pieces so that they are equal, creating a tight or soft pom pom.

The tail can be a hanging string or if you don’t want it hanging, cut the tail to the same length as the pom pom.

White Pom Pom yarn wrapped 100 times around a 6 inch book.

Make Pom Pom Snowman Decorations

  • white pom pom
  • Orange felt
  • 2 Blue Pom Poms 1-1/2″ in diameter
  • 2 12 inch long green velvet bars
  • 7 black 3/8″ buttons
  • Hot glue
  • Drag
  • Transparent tape

Using the Pom Pom tutorial, create a white pom pom by wrapping white yarn around a book 100 times. Keep the long tail and use it to hang.

Fold the two pieces of velvet in half and hold them together with a piece of clear tape in the middle. Bend them into a semicircle and hot glue the blue pom poms to each end. You may need to trim the velvet stems depending on the size of the pom poms. I cut about 1″ off the ends of mine.

Glue the blue earplugs to the white pompom.

Add 2 black buttons for eyes and hot glue.

Cut a small triangle out of orange felt for the nose and glue it onto the white pom pom.

Mine is about 1.25 inches long.

Use hot glue to glue five black buttons together for the mouth.

Tie a simple knot at the tail yarn and hang it up!
