How to make a Christmas tree with Q-Tip paint

What you need:

  • drag
  • glue
  • construction paper (white, brown and yellow)
  • black marker
  • Hand painted (different colors)
  • Q tip

Step-by-step instructions

Start by giving your child a piece of white construction paper.

Step 1

Instruct them to use a black marker to draw a wavy line going from the top of the paper to the bottom.

This line will represent the Christmas tree light cable.

It will sway and bend, just like a string of lights!

Step 2

Have them dip the end of the Q-tip into blue paint (or whatever color they choose) and start making small dots along the black wavy line.

Step 3

These dots will be the Christmas lights on the tree!

Ask them to choose a different color (we chose red paint) and make more dots.

Step 4

Encourage children to add different colors like red, yellow, orange, pink and green to make the lights look colorful and bright.

Step 5

Continue making dots along the line until it is filled with festive lights. The more colors, the better!

Once the lights are done, it’s time to think about the tree!

Have your child use a piece of yellow construction paper and cut out a beautiful star.

Stick it to the top of the tree.

Step 6

Now it’s time to make a planter!

Give the children a small piece of brown construction paper.

Have them cut out a trapezoid—this will be the plant pot.

The bottom of the trapezoid must be narrower than the top.

Step 7

Gently fold down the wider parallel side of the trapezoid to create the top edge of the pot and glue it to the bottom of the Christmas tree.

Step 8

Let the gardenia dry completely before hanging it or displaying it as a holiday decoration.
