Get in the Christmas spirit by making this wooden reindeer ornament for the holiday.

This fun project would be great to do with your kids, especially if you’ve never made your own Christmas tree ornaments.

Different Christmas crafts are a great opportunity to get creative during the holidays and we love making them (check out our 3D Christmas Tree Cards or our Santa Windsock Toilet Paper Roll Craft).

The craft itself is not very labor intensive and is a lot of fun. If you are new to making your own ornaments, this is a great craft to start with and you can buy wood slices with or without holes at most craft stores this time of year.

If you are more skilled at carpentry, you can make your own wood slices.

To make them even more unique, each reindeer’s antlers can be shaped to your liking.

How to make a wood slice reindeer ornament

What you need:

  • wooden plate
  • ribbon
  • glitter paper
  • pom pom
  • drag
  • tick
  • pencil
  • hot glue
  • paint
  • paint brush

Let’s build it.

Step by step instructions

Paint the wooden plate white.

Draw reindeer antlers on the back of the glitter paper…

…and cut them out.

Draw a reindeer head on a piece of wood and paint it brown.

Next, draw the eyes with a black marker.

Cut a piece of ribbon and hot glue it to the back of the wood slice.

Glue a red shuttlecock as a nose.

Glue reindeer antlers to the back.

And you’re done.

Make as many reindeer as you like. They don’t all have to have red pom-poms on their noses, make one red and the others brown and practice all of Santa’s reindeer names.

Merry Christmas to you…

…and have fun making crafts.
