If you choose to color the turtle, this is the time to do it. It will be much easier to assemble the turtle clothespin puppets after they have been colored.

If your child can cut out the turtle themselves, let them do it for this step. You can also help them cut out the turtle by cutting around the turtle in a large square. Then, your child can hold a smaller piece of paper while they cut.

Next, cut the mouth in half. This may seem like an odd part, but this is what will make the turtle talk when it’s finished.

Now for the fun part! Have your child glue the top of the clothespin so they can add a mouth!

Go ahead and add the mouth to the clothespin. This is the first step in assembling the turtle puppet.

You will glue the body along the bottom of the clothespin. The idea is that when the clothespin opens and closes, it looks like the turtle is talking.
