I have been excited about this stone turtle craft for quite some time and after a long nature walk we collected the right stones to finally do this painted stone project.
I had this vision in my head for weeks and was so excited to see it come to fruition, and now this little plant is a proud resident of our garden.

Stone Turtle Crafts
What you need to make this adorable stone turtle craft
- rocks, 1 larger oval or round and 5 smaller ovals for the head and feet, all should be flat rather than round (we collected these while walking, pretty much any dollar store or arts and crafts store sells rocks too)
- Glue gun (children can use low temperature glue gun)
- various paints – we used some green and cream (acrylic is great because it’s waterproof but you can always use other paints and varnish them)
- blue and black marker
- brush
Wash the stones and let them dry.
Color the small rocks green. Color the large rocks cream and let dry.
Once dry, use a felt-tip pen to draw details on the turtle shell (you can sketch in pencil first).
Color them green (we used olive green).
Let dry. While waiting, you can heat up the glue gun.
Once your glue gun is ready, glue the legs and head to the bottom of the turtle shell. If you’re patient, I’ve found that white school glue works well for gluing rocks together, but it takes a while to dry (and I don’t know if it would work outdoors).
Draw eyes and nostrils with a felt pen.
Isn’t he (or she) the cutest? I want more.
