Feeling festive yet? We certainly are and we’ve started sharing new Christmas craft ideas for kids this year (we love seeing our fun collection grow).

This Christmas paper plate craft is perfect to do in the classroom as it makes the most amazing and fun display – you need a regular tree when you can have a bunch of these twists and turns.

We even created a printable template with little ornaments that kids can color and decorate to put on their little paper plate tree, or they can create their own ornaments.

This product is great for fine motor skills and scissor skills (for preschoolers and kindergarteners with adult assistance).

Are you ready to have fun making this, let’s get started.

How to make a Christmas tree with a rotating paper plate

What you need:

  • our template (completely optional – you can find it at the end of this guide)
  • paper plate
  • green paint
  • coloring materials
  • drag
  • glue

Gems, glitter glue and other wonderful decorations are all welcome.

Also:

  • hole punching machine
  • thread to hang

Follow the step-by-step instructions

Paint the paper plate green (preferably on both sides).Cut into spirals.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the center of the swirl (on top of the paper plate Christmas tree).

If you have printed our ornament template, color/decorate as you like.

If not, make your own decorations.

Cut them out.

Color the back too, the paper plate Christmas tree will look more beautiful when it spins in the air.

Fold the “paper thread” in the middle…

Apply glue to the top section.

And stick it on the paper plate.

Add more decorations until you are happy with the look of your Christmas tree.
