We love making all sorts of pumpkin crafts this time of year, and this one is especially appealing to little ones – it’s super easy to make and helps with fine motor skills. Not to mention it looks really artistic when finished.

Ready to do it yourself? Let’s get started.

How to make pumpkin paper plate with tissue paper inlay

What you need

  • A paper plate
  • Craft glue
  • Orange or black tissue paper (old napkins work great too)
  • Green pipe cleaner
  • Paintbrush

Step by step instructions

Cut the orange tissue paper into 1”-2” squares, we used two shades of orange to create a more mosaic effect.

Depending on the age of your child when you do this craft, you can let your child do it to practice some fine motor skills. You can also tear the paper.

Drizzle glue over the entire back of the paper plate, and let your child use a paintbrush to spread the glue all over the plate, all the way to the edge.

Now lay out the tissue paper pieces and have your child cover the back with orange paper pieces in a random pattern, you may need to add a little glue here and there to make them stick.

Add a little glue to the eyes, mouth, and nose. Now your child can choose their favorite pieces from the black tissue paper you cut out to create their own unique pumpkin face.

Allow the paper plate to dry completely. Trim off the excess paper at the edge if you like, or you can leave it as is.

Take a green toothpick and wrap it around your finger to create a cute curly vine at the top. Turn the plate over and glue it to the back.

Cut, paste, repeat to create a whole pumpkin army!

Happy Halloween Crafting!
