Tulip in a Heart Card

Be still my heart! This tulip heart card is the cutest card your child can make, for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

Open the card and you will see a heart with a beautiful 3D tulip.

This is one of those craft projects that can definitely be done without a pattern, but since we get so many requests, we thought it would be best to include a pattern (you can get one from our members) and also explain how to do it without using a pattern. It’s really that simple.

This card has plenty of room for kids to add their own personal message. Kind and heartwarming for friends. Silly and cute for a crush. Kind and heartfelt for Mother’s Day. There are so many options, and no matter the occasion, these tulip pop-up cards are always a big hit.

How to make a heart tulip card (with or without our template)

What you need

• our printable template (you can get it at the end of this tutorial)
• heart shaped craft paper (pink, red or any color really)
• floral paper (any color) regular printer paper or craft paper will do
• green paper or green marker
• drag
• glue

Paper clips are useful for holding cards together.

Step by step instructions

If you decide to work with our template, print it out on regular printer paper. You can also print it on thicker printer paper and color all the pieces to use in this project.

Draw a large heart shape on cardboard.

If you are working without our template, I recommend folding a piece of construction paper in half and cutting out a heart shape. Draw half of the heart shape next to the fold and cut it out, so that you have a symmetrical heart shape when you open it up.

Cut out a heart shape from cardboard.

Glue the white heart (the smaller heart in the template) to the inside of the construction paper heart.

If you do it without a template, make a heart smaller than the first heart and glue it inside.

Redraw the leaves or draw your own.

Cut them out. Cut the stems too.

Glue the stem inside the heart, at the bottom, right in the middle.

Glue the two leaves.

Let the glue dry. Fold the heart in half. Depending on the quality of the glue, you may need to make some adjustments ;).

Let’s make flowers

Trace the tulip shape onto paper. You will need to trace it several times, as many as you can (we did 6). You can use the same color for all the shapes or make multiple colors.

Cut tulips.

Without a template, you will make the tulips the same way you made the hearts, as it is important to make them symmetrical. Fold the paper and cut out a “half tulip” shape. Use the first shape as a template for the others, or, if you are working with thin paper (printing paper), you can cut multiple layers at once, creating more tulips in one go.

Once you have cut them all out, fold them in half.

Glue the two halves on top of each other.

Once you have glued them all together… Apply glue to one end (half) of the tulip…

Press it down onto the card. Glue the other half.

And close the cover to let the glue harden.
