We love making crafts that have depth and dimension and tunnel books certainly do that! They can be a gateway to so many fun miniature worlds.

This underwater tunnel book template is simple enough to make (for both kids and adults) so it’s great for teaching/learning the basics.

There are a number of “sea elements” you can put into this tunnel book along with a fish and an octopus, so we hope your child will design some of their own to add to it.

How to make a book under the sea tunnel

What you need

  • Our printable Undersea Tunnel Book template (you can download it at the end of this tutorial)
  • printer
  • printing paper (the heavier the better)
  • stock card options
  • colored pencils, crayons, markers, or something else (we used Tombow Dual Brush markers)
  • glue
  • drag

This tunnel book is best made on thicker printer paper. If you don’t have that, you can print it out on regular paper and glue it onto construction paper.

Print out our template (which you can find at the end of this tutorial). You can also print out the gridded page on blue paper to give it an undersea look.

Color all the pictures. We used markers BUT one problem with markers is that they tend to bleed through and wrinkle the paper, so it’s important to use thicker paper or reinforce it with construction paper.

Once you have finished coloring all the scenes and animals, cut them out.

Also cut two grids. Fold the two grids along the straight lines into an accordion shape. You will need to mark all the folds to make them nice and crisp – we used a craft stick to do this.
