It’s time to get creative with your fingers (and q-tips)!

This simple winter tree finger painting activity is great for kids of all ages, but I think preschoolers and kindergarteners will enjoy it the most!

Q-tip snowflakes also make a great fine motor exercise!

When it’s too cold to go outside, this simple project will keep the kids excited for a while, and chances are you’ll already have everything you need at home!

We love sharing winter craft ideas for kids to make, and we’re happy to share art ideas too!

This is super easy and can be modified to suit all ages, from toddlers to elementary school kids.

There are many ways you can take this winter art project and it’s a great one for the classroom, the use of materials can be modified to suit different age groups (we’ll share some tips and ideas later ABOVE).

What you need:

Finger painting activity

Ideally you’ll need a piece of blue paper – you can really use any color but blue paper really works best for creating a winter scene.

You’ll also need permanent markers to draw the tree (or you can have your child handprint instead of drawing the tree), some white paint, and a q-tip to make the snowflakes.

Nowadays, there are quite a few other “painting” materials you can use to paint this winter landscape… Children can use foam brushes (circular), daubers, clothespins with cotton balls on them , stamps or many other materials to make snow. But fingers will always win, because messing up your work is the best thing.

If you’re looking forward to spring (or don’t have colored paper), your child can make a cherry blossom tree – we’ll do it next week!
