Black Cat Paper Plate Craft

We have another great paper plate project to share with you – we are making a black cat paper plate craft (great for kids).

Last year we shared a quirky looking swirly cat – but that one required a little more skill, so this year we’re making an easier version for preschoolers or older kindergarteners.

Cats are the best! I grew up with one (or a few) and I can vouch for the fact that children develop a special kind of bond with cats (and cats with children). My cat, although it seems wrong to say my cat because most of the time it feels like the ownership is reversed, is one of my best friends, my best listener, and my playmate.

He is one of the reasons I really enjoy creating cat crafts.

Since we love thrifty crafts as well as easy crafts, paper plate crafts are often a favorite. This fun cat paper plate craft is fun to make all year round, but it doubles up as a fun Halloween craft (you can even add a witch hat to it).

Ready? Let’s make one!

Or follow the step-by-step instructions below

Paint the paper plate black.

We think sponge brushes are best because you can paint large surfaces relatively quickly. Allow the paint to dry before moving on.

Once the paint is dry, take a paper plate and start cutting the edges of the plate.

You can cut out circles or cat heads with ears depending on your child’s scissor skills (ears can be cut and glued separately).

Cut two big eyes out of yellow paper and glue them onto the head.

Draw eye details with black marker.

Also, cut out the pink nose and ears and glue them in place.

Glue the cat to its head.

Make a cat tail from the “leftovers” on the edge of the first paper plate.

Stick it on the cat’s body.

Do the same with the cat’s feet.

And if you haven’t cut the ears yet, cut off the excess edges and glue them to the head.

Older children can also cut thin strips of white paper and glue them to the cat’s body to make a wish.

They can also be painted with white paint.

This black cat paper plate is perfect for hanging on the wall and would make a great classroom decoration.
