While we really don’t like wasting food – anything, no matter how hard we try, sometimes there’s an opened packet of pasta that’s still sitting in the back of the cupboard that everyone seems to forget about. Instead of throwing away pasta, why not put it to creative use?

We found a great way to use these spirals and create a lion, a sun, a sunflower, and a snake.

This is a great summer craft activity, especially when done at summer camp.

So if you have some old twisted pasta somewhere in your kitchen.

Grab a handful and start crafting.

Easy Pasta Craft Ideas

What you need:

  • spiral macaroni
  • comb
  • craft paint (blue, yellow, caramel, orange)
  • colored pencils (blue, yellow, brown, green)
  • black pencil
  • glue
  • Googly eyes
  • cardboard

Step by step instructions

Pasta Lion Craft

To make the lion we used 16 spirals.

We painted 8 orange and the rest caramel.

Use black eyeliner to draw a lion face on cardboard, color it with colored pencils and attach the bulging eyes.

Apply a little glue to each spiral and stick them around the lion’s head.

Draw the lion’s body and color it with colored pencils.

The lion is done.

Handmade pasta snakes

To make the snake, first we paint 6 macaroni spirals with blue acrylic paint.

Draw the snake’s head, color it with a blue pencil and attach the bulging eyes.

Apply some glue to the spirals and arrange them any way you like.

That is the snake’s tail.

The snake is done.

Handmade sunflower pasta

For the sunflowers, we painted 16 spirals with yellow acrylic paint.

Draw a sunflower shape, color it with colored pencils as shown and attach fake eyes.

Apply a little glue to the spirals and arrange them around the sunflower head.

Finished!

Handmade Sun Pasta

For the sun we used 8 spirals painted with yellow acrylic.

Draw a circle, color it with a yellow pencil and add bulging eyes.

Apply a little glue to each spiral and place them around the top of the circle.

Done!
