You can make these adorable little stuffed animals quite easily – just follow this seahorse felt tutorial!
You can make an adorable toy for your child, use it as a mobile phone, key chain or just as a cute decoration!
First, I want to say that I’m not a sewing master – you’ll notice by my stitching so this little project is perfect for beginners!
What you will need:
- felt in your desired color
- seahorse template – Felt seahorse tutorial template
- thread in desired color
- drag
- glue (optional but recommended for beginners)
- stuffing
- marker
Print and cut the template. I made this model in two sizes and even added additional fins for those of you who are more skilled. Draw the shapes onto the felt and cut it out – cut out the body, eyes and belly twice (and fins).
Once you’ve got everything cut, it’s time to sew.
Let’s start with the eyes – you can cut black dots from felt with black thread to sew into a circle like I did.
To make things go smoothly, I recommend gluing the parts you will sew (eyes, belly, dorsal fin) – with fabric glue or white school glue (just don’t add much and don’t press it down). There are many different sewing techniques you can use to do just that – because there are so many beautiful decorative stitching techniques that are perfect for the job.
This Youtube video shows some of the techniques and it explains them clearer than ever, so it’s a must-watch for beginners!
Once you’ve chosen your stitching technique, it’s time to start working on the belly and eyes!
Is it all done? Let’s finish off this adorable mug! It’s quilt stitching – all around! Use the stuffing as you go because it will be difficult to tuck in the head or tail at the end.
If you’re new to all this, you’ll want to watch this video showing how to sew a blanket!
Hope you enjoyed this felt seahorse tutorial (and like the pattern)!
