What you need:

  • pencil
  • drag
  • glue
  • construction paper (blue)
  • something to make a star (gold paper, glitter paper…)
  • pom-poms (available in various colors) or other suitable materials
  • old newspaper
  • white chalk marker or gel pen

To make things easier, you can also use our Christmas tree outline templates.

Step-by-step instructions

You can use blank cards from the store, or you can easily make one by cutting a piece of Letter or A4 sized paper in half and folding it.

Step 1

When folding the paper, run a ruler (or something similar) along the fold to make it neat (this is optional).

Step 2

Draw a Christmas tree outline on a newspaper page or a page from a damaged book. The tree should be smaller (but not by much) than the folded card.

For younger children, you can ask them to cut a simple triangle shape for the tree.

Step 3

Then, cut along the outline you drew.

Step 4

Apply glue to the tree or card.

Step 5

And paste the newspaper cutout on the card.

Step 6

Cut star shapes out of paper or other material.

Glue the star to the top of the tree.

Step 7

It’s time to add decorations.

You can let children use pom-poms of different colors to make Christmas tree decorations. They can also use scrap paper, crumpled tissues and stickers…

Step 8

To complete the Christmas card, draw some dots in the form of snowflakes using a white chalk or gel pen.

Step 9

You can also have them use Q-tips and dip them in white paint to make snowflakes.

Step 10

All has been done!

It’s time to add a little fun! Ask your child to fill out the card with happy wishes or a cheerful message.
