Handprint Santa Salt Dough Ornament

Time for some fun? Yes, it is! Why not make some fun and easy Santa hand prints with your kids using salt dough!

This is a fun project for kids of all ages because hands of all ages look cute – babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners and older!

Santa Claus Hand Salt Dough Ornament

What you will need:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup warm water (you may need a little more)
  • Note* The dough should not be sticky.
  • Craft Paints & Brushes
  • Wax Paper
  • Butter knife
  • The hands of a volunteer! To make your own Santa Claus

Pour the salt dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead like you would bread dough to remove air bubbles and achieve a smooth texture.

Cut a piece of dough, roll it into a ball, and press it flat onto parchment paper into a circle about 1/2 inch thick.

Sprinkle flour all over your palms and gently work it into the dough to prevent sticking.

Press down firmly on the dough and lift it up carefully. Use a butter knife to go around the edges and create a border.

Place the handprint in the microwave and heat for 15 seconds. Repeat. Then heat for 20 seconds.

Do this until the dough begins to dry and change color (about 6 rounds).

You can cover the dough until it starts to harden, the rest of the dough will dry and harden overnight.

TIP* Paint the entire handprint white first, then paint the face. This makes painting all the details much easier!
