A simple card that opens to reveal a message. What could be better!

We’ve been busy sharing all sorts of arts and crafts ideas for Valentine’s Day, and one of the most popular is definitely cards. A simple piece of paper can quickly become a wonderful gift from the heart.

This pattern is pretty easy to make, but we know that drawing hearts can be tricky sometimes, so we’ve also prepared a printable pattern for you.

Ready? Let’s make a heart shaped card.

How to make heart card

  • our sample
  • construction paper
  • ribbon
  • Marker pen to write your message
  • hole punching machine
  • optional: coloring supplies if you will be coloring your card

Follow the step-by-step instructions

Print out our template. You can use it as a printable or as a heart-shaped colored card template.

Cut out the pattern.

If you used the heart-shaped card template as a stencil, trace the shape onto cardstock.

Cut out the card shape.

Place the wax paper over the cut out and punch holes through the marked holes on the template.

You can also do this without a template.

Fold the edges back.

Cut out a smaller heart shape and glue it inside the card.

Write your message.

Thread the ribbon through the holes.

Tie them up.

Alternatively, you can also use yarn (better for people with small hands as it is easier to knot).
