Simple things are always best and this DIY shirt card couldn’t be easier to make. It’s suitable for all ages as long as the child (or child-at-heart) can handle scissors – older preschoolers will be able to do it themselves, preschoolers will be proud of their work and older children won’t have any problems at all.

But why stop at kids, this game is so much fun that you’ll have fun doing it too!

You can use scrapbooking paper to make fancy ties, or you can use scrap paper to add embellishments to your ties. And the same goes for shirts – you can use solid colored construction paper or choose something with a pattern (Hawaiian shirt?).

Are you ready? Let’s make this shirt card!

Print the template. The template with the card base is best printed on colored paper.

Alternatively, you can print on white paper and let your child color the body of the shirt (one color or multiple fun designs).

Pattern cutting – cut along full straight lines.

Cut, cut, cut… The full line is guiding you.

Don’t forget the neckline.

Time to fold. Fold along the dotted lines on the shirt tag. Fold carefully to create a crisp crease.

Cut out the tie pattern. If you want to color it, it is best to color it before cutting.

If using as a stencil, place the tie on patterned paper and trace over it with a pencil or marker.

Cut out the tie pattern.

Add a little glue to the end of the tie (back) and stick it to the card base (between the gaps).

Fold the strips of paper up over the card, bottom corners facing the tip of the tie to form the collar.

Glue is not required to secure the collar but can be added.

Write your message inside the card.

Done! You’ve learned how to make a Father’s Day shirt card.
