Warmer weather brings us stronger winds, and where there’s wind, there are windmills. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make a paper pinwheel, and you can even use our fancy printables to make them just as pretty.
There are quite a few designs waiting for you as well as a blank template for you to design your own pinwheel.

This is a paper toy that has been (and still is) loved by generations. Even today, you can still see people selling these beautiful colorful wind spinners and children happily run around with them.
They’re super easy to make at home. With the awesome printables we’ve designed for you to use and start crafting right away, there’s really no time to waste.
They are versatile to build, super fun, and a super classic spring or summer craft.
What you need:
Let’s get started!
Print and cut out the spinning top.
You can use the color version, color the black and white print, or even draw your own design on the blank printout provided.
Then cut along the black line.
Be careful not to cross those black lines.
Use a sharp pencil tip to make larger holes in the black dots.
You will make six holes.
Thread the cotton swab through the hole in the middle.
Fold each cut over and thread them onto the cotton swab…
… one after another.
Until you get to the end.
Take a bead, thread it onto a cotton swab (front side)…
…and tie a knot.
Like this.
Use scissors to cut off the excess part of the velvet strip.
The knot helps prevent the cotton stick from falling out.
Thread the remaining bead onto the cotton swab (back side)…
…and tie a knot. Make sure not to tie too tight so the spinner has enough room to move around in the wind.
Wrap the cotton swab around the wooden stick.
Done! Too easy right?
If there is no wind, we recommend using a hair dryer or your mouth to blow air into the camera.
The harder you blow on the edge, the faster it spins.
You can do as much as you want.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more fun crafts!
