We love Halloween! It’s a special time of year that’s both mysterious and fun. More importantly, it’s the time of year when you can really let your creativity run wild! There are all sorts of great Halloween craft ideas you can do with your kids – whether it’s just for fun or to turn your home or classroom into a spooly mansion.
Glass jars for Halloween decorations are a great project because they are fun, have so many possibilities, and make the ultimate DIY decoration.
You can add a tea light candle to make them even cooler. They can easily be used as pencil holders, shelf decorations or as table centerpieces to hold flowers, spooky decorations, snacks, straws…
You can also use them as drinking glasses (just don’t paint the inside and avoid painting the rim where the lid will go). I don’t think anyone would like to drink from a mummy shaped glass bottle!
Are you ready to make your own decorative glass jars? Let’s do it!
How to Make a Mummy Craft in a Mason Jar
What you need:
- glass jar
- black multipurpose paint
- paint brush
- first aid tape
- Googly eyes
- glue (a glue gun is best – you can use low heat with kids, regular glue is fine too)
And any other creepy details you can think of ;).
Are you ready to make a mummy in a jar? Let’s get crafting!
Protect the work area with a few sheets of scrap paper, especially if young children are enjoying crafts.
Paint the outside (or inside) of your glass jar black. Depending on the type of paint, you may need to apply more than one coat.
To dry the paint – some take just a few minutes, others may need to dry overnight – follow the instructions on the paint itself.
First, we need to add a pair of googly eyes (although these look the prettiest/silliest, you can also use paper circles with eyes drawn on them). Carefully glue the googly eyes to the top third of the glass jar. Wait a moment for the glue to set.
Stick masking tape to the bottom of the jar and begin wrapping and overlapping the tape around the jar to look like a mummy.
And there you have it! You’ve made yourself a gorgeous and spooky Halloween mummy jar, and it’s ready to hold all sorts of treats or use as a decoration (remember – the tea light will make it glow).
Such an easy Halloween mason jar craft! And so awesome too!
