Paper Plate Jellyfish Craft

Let’s make jellyfish with paper plates! Jellyfish are one of the most spectacular inhabitants of the sea and they make a great subject for summer arts and crafts activities with children. This jellyfish craft is great for preschool and kindergarten kids, although we’ll share some ideas on how to make it more challenging and fun for older kids, too.

Paper plate crafts are perfect for making crafts in the classroom or with other large groups because they are inexpensive to make.

How to make crafts using jellyfish paper plates

What you need:

paper plate
tissue paper/crepe paper
paint
glue
drag
paintbrush
black marker
two big round eyes (optional)

Step-by-step instructions

You will need a paper plate for one jellyfish. If you want to make this craft even more economical, you can also cut the paper plate in half and let your kids make two jellyfish from one paper plate.

Let the kids paint the paper plate the color they want their jellyfish to be.

Wait for the paint to dry, then have your child cut the bottom of the paper plate along a wavy line to form the bottom edge of the jellyfish.

Glue two googly eyes onto the painted paper. If you don’t have those, you can make eyes out of white paper and draw black spots on them. Or just draw them directly on the paper plate.

More jellyfish paper plate craft ideas

This craft will be just as cute if you use whole paper plates and don’t cut them in half.

You can also use paper plates as a base, ask your child to draw them like the ocean (or any other color they want) and then add a paper jellyfish on top of the paper plate.

You can challenge older kids to make a group of jellyfish out of ribbon on a paper plate and cut the fabric into awesome tentacles.
