We decided to make today “World Penguin Day”. What do you think? Why not? We find penguins fascinating.

Have you seen them scratching their backs on bandages? Isn’t that funny? It’s the only way they can scratch, they don’t have flexible hands like bears.

They have no arms, just two wings. And guess what? They can’t fly! What? That’s right, but they can hug each other and swim in the ocean.

Yes, penguins love to cuddle and swim, and that makes them super special birds.

So today we’re going to make Buddy Pow, a penguin made from paper plates.

How to make a penguin craft with a paper plate

What you need:

  • a paper plate
  • two self adhesive googly eyes
  • a white glitter self adhesive foam sheet
  • Self adhesive foam sheet orange glitter
  • black acrylic paint
  • white acrylic paint
  • orange acrylic paint
  • pencil
  • circular ruler
  • drag
  • comb

Step by step instructions

Add Buddy Pow to the world of wiggle penguins.

Start by drawing a circle with a pencil and end with a heart shape at the top as shown in the first image.

Head and Face

Create a second circle. This will be the penguin’s head and face.

Foot

Draw two oar-like legs at the bottom of the paper plate.

Color the inside of the circle with white acrylic paint.

Paint the legs with orange acrylic paint.

Then fill the rest of the space with black acrylic paint.

Eye

Take the self-adhesive fake eyes and glue them to your face.

Nose

Cut a triangle from self-adhesive orange paper…

…and add it as a nose.

Draw a dozen circles of varying sizes on the back of a black self-adhesive foam sheet (using a circular ruler) …

…then cut them out…

…and place them on the penguin’s body.

Wing

Draw two wing shapes with a pencil.

Use scissors to cut around the head, wings and legs.

Finished!

Now we wait for the snow to fall, then we will place Buddy Pow on the snow in the yard.

Then we will go around and pick up some pebbles from the ground and put them near Buddy Pow because that is his favorite toy.

That’s right, gravel!

Stay tuned for more penguin crafts!
