Welcome spring with this cute sun and rainbow paper plate craft.
This is a fun classroom project because one paper plate can make two crafts and you can use scrap materials for everything else.

With this spring craft idea, it’s all about sunshine and colorful rainbows and although you could definitely add some clouds to it (cotton balls in the sunshine would look really fun), we decided to go with a clear blue sky.
This project is great for fine motor skills and cutting practice because of the sun rays and rainbow stripes. If you are working with a younger audience, we recommend cutting first and just letting the kids glue.
This is also a great project you can use to teach about the colors of the rainbow.
How to make a paper plate sun and rainbow craft
What you need:
- paper plate
- yellow paint
- orange and yellow paper
- rainbow tissue paper
- glue
- drag
- tick
Step by step instructions
Start by painting the paper plate yellow.
When the paint is dry, fold the paper plate in half.
Cut along the fold to create two half circles. You will need half a paper plate for this project.
If you want, you can draw a smiley face (or any other shape) on half of the paper plate to give your product some personality.
Cut small triangles from orange and yellow paper.
Glue them to the back of the paper plate as shown below.
Next is the rainbow. Cut strips of tissue paper…
And glue them to the back of the paper plate.
Done! Your sun and rainbow paper plate craft is complete.
